Genmaicha refers to tea made by blending roasted brown rice with tea leaves (2:3 ratio). Our Genmaicha offerings include Genmai Sencha (brown rice green tea) and Genmai Hōjicha (brown rice roasted green tea).
While these teas may seem similar, they are actually quite different. Both are made from the same tea plant and blended with roasted brown rice, but the way the tea leaves are processed sets them apart.
Sencha leaves are steamed, rolled, and then dried, while Hōjicha leaves are roasted at high heat before being dried.
The result is a fresh green tea flavor from the Genmai Sencha vs a double roasted fragrance from the Genmai Hōjicha.
