A chakoshi (茶漉し) is a Japanese tea sifter made for straining tea, but also makes for a great way to sift matcha. Sifting matcha is a crucial step that breaks up clumps and ensures a creamy bowl of matcha.
The Tsubame Chakoshi is handcrafted by artisans in the Tsubame region of Niigata, Japan, which has a metalworking tradition dating back over 400 years. Each chakoshi is hand-hammered to create a dimpled tsuchime (槌目) pattern that improves grip.
